Continue reading to learn more about Casey, including the most rewarding part of his job, his favorite aspect of WMG’s culture and advice for those looking to enter the construction industry.

Tell us about your background and role at WMG in a few sentences.
I began my career in construction back in the 1990s. During that time, I mainly worked within the concrete field and provided inspections of structural components. I joined WMG in 2020 as a quality control engineer, and my first project was the parking structure at LAX. I’m currently serving as quality control engineer for the American Airlines Project at the LAX, where I perform all material, initial and follow-up inspections. I also coordinate all Los Angeles Department of Building Safety (LADBS), Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) inspections in the field.

What certificates and degrees have you earned that help you perform and lead?
I’m OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certified and earned my Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I’m also licensed in reinforced concrete and masonry for both Los Angeles City/Santa Monica and the City of Long Beach. I earned my OXY/OSCA - Refinery Safety certification, and I’m trained in pre-stressed concrete and reinforced masonry through the Innovative Inspection Training program and certified in structural plan reading through Cal Coast Inspection. I also maintain my Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for the Port Maritime Security Clearance.

What’s been the most rewarding part of your job?
This industry can bring many difficult challenges, especially during large-scale, long-term projects. I have enjoyed being able to serve as a mediator, resolving issues between the owners, representatives and contractors. By doing this, I’m able to keep sensitive timelines on track, leading to successful and safe project completions.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was growing up, I always wanted to be a police officer.

How would your colleagues describe you?
My colleagues would describe me as a real go-getter. Within my work, and as a leader, I always strive to be proactive, tenacious, amicable, punctual and committed.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone looking to get into the construction industry?
I would encourage anyone that’s considering a career in the construction industry to make an effort to attend school or gain an education in any way they can. I have learned so much over the last 20+ years, and if I could give my 21-year-old self one piece of advice, it would be to stay in school and learn as much about construction as I could before launching my career.

What is the best part of WMG’s culture?
It’s motivating to be surrounded by so many hardworking individuals, each possessing great expertise on a variety of topics. We are a close-knit group and I feel as though everyone on the WMG team has my back, knowing I’ll always have theirs.

What’s your favorite travel destination/airport code?
My favorite airport code and destination is CSL (Cabo San Lucas) because when I land it means I get to do my favorite activity: long-range fishing!
